Today (27 Jan, 2006), I found I can access my blog in Blogsome. This service was blocked in China since October 2005. Now before the Chinese New Year, it is able to access again. So far, I have no idea how long it will take to be accessed. Hope there won’t be any more blocks.

Eclipse 3.1.1前些天发布了。 昨天，Eclipse开通了3.1.1的Update Site，并且给出了一个详细的指导：如何用Eclipse Update Manager从3.1升级为3.1.1。

我没有使用Update Manager来处理这次升级，而是下载了全新的3.1.1并且安转的，因为我需要整理一下“几乎乱作一团”的那些plug-in。

Eclipse的WTP Project发表了最新的两个Tutorial。

一个是来自于IBM developerWorks的
Building Web Applications with Eclipse, WTP, and Derby，介绍如何使用WTP来开发Derby应用程序（Derby是IBM贡献个Apache的一个源码开放的数据库系统，它的商用版本就是IBM Cloudscape。

另一个是Building a CMP Based School Schedule Web Application，介绍了如何使用WTP，Jboss和XDoclet开发一个基于CMP的EJB项目。

这两个都可以作为学习WTP不错的教材。

前些天提到Eclipse的web master在网上征求对eclipse.org主页新风格的意见，以及投票。 昨天，投票结果出来了，列第一的是那个基于蓝色底面的设计（基本上也是Eclipse IDE的那个slash的颜色），85票。

按照Denis Roy在mailing list中所说，会很快将现在的eclipse.org主页改为新的设计：

“I’ll be handing over Roger’s submission to the web designer so that the
stylesheets can be created. We’ll contact Roger to get the submitted
skin in a high-res graphic format the web designer can work with.

大胃在6月6号的blog中，曾经推荐过这个Eclipse的插件。 当时SQLExplorer 2.23对Eclipse 3.1的支持还不是很好。 7月份的SQLExplorer 2.24发布了，在Eclipse 3.1上安装以后，没有任何问题。

OnJava.com上有一篇介绍SQLExplorer的文章，作为入门介绍，非常详细。 SQLExplorer的主页也搬到dev.java.net上了。

Windows Vista (原来的Longhorn) Beta 发布了以后，Eclipse和NetBeans两大阵营的“狂热爱好者”就在Vista分别下试验了Eclipse 和 NetBeans。 下面分别是运行在Vista下的Eclipse和NetBeans的屏幕效果：

看上去，在Vista下面，Java UI 更加成熟和漂亮了（当然，Eclipse使用的是原生的UI，本来就应该和Vista完全一致的），加上Mustang （Java SE 6）对GUI（以及Swing UI）的增强，可以预料到，会有更多的Java桌面应用系统的，不管是基于Eclipse的RCP程序，还是使用Swing的。

Phoenix Project，是Eclipse.org下面一个重新设计eclipse.org站点风格的项目，按照项目计划，9月1日开始，公众就可以开始从已经设计出来的若干个不同的风格中投票选择最喜欢的一个。 目前提供了三个，均列在下面，点击图片可以看到清晰的大图，点击图片下面的链接则可以投票了。（你需要一个Eclipse Bugzilla的帐号，不过很容易申请的）

del.icio.us，美味书签。

用del.icio.us有一段时间了，但是一直只是简单的使用，作为参考资料的一个备份的索引。 因为今天开始用新的电脑了，突然发现IE里面没有常用的添加书签到del.icio.us的快速连接，鼠标右键里面也少一个快捷菜单，因为忘了怎么做这个快速连接了，所以google一下，才突然发现了一些好东西。

首先，在google中如果直接查询del.icio.us的话，只有一条结果，就是del.icio.us的网站链接。 但是我相信有无数网站谈到了del.icio.us，但是google都没有查询到。 只好换用“美味书签”来查询，因为记得以前看过一些中文的blog，谈到过“美味书签”。

确实找到了不少东西，比较值得看的，是“哈斯日志”中提到的“del.icio.us应用工具荟萃”。 顺着这篇blog给出的信息，又找到了一篇英文的，可以说是del.icio.us的应用大全了：Absolutely Del.icio.us - Complete Tool Collection ，真的是包罗万象，什么东西都有。

del.icio.us 其实只是一个网络版的书签管理系统。 但是它的风格足够简单，使用tag来作为分类（区别于传统的分类方式，使用tag，最简单的好处就是一个书签，可以放在不同的好几个分类下面，而且可以任意定义tag），同时可以构建一个书签的社会网络：你可以知道同一个书签被哪些其他人也收录了，从而找到相同兴趣的人，并且可以分享他们的收藏。

del.icio.us其实就是把英文单词delicious（美味的）给拆分了。 而且，作者Joshua Schachter聪明的利用互联网地址分类的方式，把delicious给拆分为一个URL地址格式：其中.icio 是域名，.us是国家代码，组合起来就是 icio.us （who is?)，但是icio.us是不能访问的，而且我们以前所熟知的http://www.xxx.xxx/的格式的http://www.icio.us/也是不能访问的，在这个域名上只有一个二级域名del，你要想访问就必须通过del.icio.us来访问了。

所以，针对我的问题，最终找到了解决的办法：

• 在浏览器工具条上添加bookmarklet: 在del.icio.us上注册了以后，打开http://del.icio.us/doc/about，通过官方指定的方式把bookmarklet添加到浏览器的工具条上；
• 或者，在这里，下载一个IE的插件，通过鼠标右键来添加;

在看这些有趣的关于del.icio.us的内容的时候，还发现了一个好玩的网站：Wetaste （我们来品尝？）。 这个网站增强了del.icio.us的功能：你可以把想bookmark的网页全部选中（当然包括图片的），然后通过它提供的bookmarklet打开Wetaste的网页，你选中的内容就被拷贝进来了，你可以做些修改，或者直接post到del.icio.us去。 区别是什么呢？原来Wetaste会保存网页的内容，然后把新的网页地址告诉del.icio.us（而不是原始的地址）做成bookmark。 其实Wetaste的做法和360doc.com类似，把网页快照保存下来，作为日后的参考资料。 只是，Wetaste直接就用del.icio.us来作为其管理工具了，而360doc则有自己的管理方式，而且不支持和del.icio.us的集成（真希望它可以和“美味书签”一起用）。

Eclipse Foundation的首席执行官，Mike Milinkovich, 在他的blog （中国国内无法看到他的blog）中简单的说了一句：”I could not have said it better myself. RCP rules! ” Mike给出的是一个Eclipse RCP用户写的blog，写出了他所认为的“为什么Eclipse RCP会rule the world?” （原文如下）

1. Web is not for everything :
   • All web based enterprise applications are failed in terms of usability
   • Web has limited flexibility in terms of adding innovative ideas; everything is limited within the JavaScript boundary
   • Even JSF+AJAX /ASP.Net+AJAX can’t become a desktop alternative, unless all the browsers replace JavaScript with Java
2. .Net Smart Client Replacement
   • It has all the features of .Net Smart Client Architecture, including Update Manager and Avalon like XML based UI scripting
   • OSGi Framework based pluggable architecture
   • Unlike .Net Smart Client, it support all the available platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, Solaris, etc
   • Also uses the SWT, a SWING alternative, which uses the native UI sub systems.
3. Tools and Support
   • Comes with brilliant Eclipse IDE and Plug-in Development Tools to support the RCP application development. It took us only few mints to get the Hello World done.
4. Its Java
   • world is full of java programmers, finding resources is not an issue.
5. Above all, its Free.
   • The entire Eclipse Platform, IDE, and Platform Development Tools are available as Open Source.

   • 几乎所有基于Web的企业应用最终因为易用性的问题而失败
   • 因为不容易加入创新的想法，Web有它的局限性；所有一切都局限于JavaScript的框框里面了
   • 甚至是JSF+AJAX /ASP.Net+AJAX 也无法成为桌面应用的替代方案，除非所有浏览器用Java来替换JavaScript
2. .Net Smart Client 的替换方案
   • 它拥有.Net Smart Client架构的所有功能, 包括更新管理，类似Avalon的基于XML的UI脚本设计
   • 基于OSGi Framework 的插拔士架构
   • 不像.Net Smart Client, 它支持多种平台，如Windows，Mac，Linux，Solaris等等
   • 使用SWT, 一种SWING的替代方案, 但是使用原生的UI
3. 工具和支持
   • 来自于Eclipse IDE并且有Plug-in Development Tools来支持RCP的开发. 我们只用了几分钟就建立了一个简单的Hello World
4. Java的
   • 有很多的Java工程师, 寻找资源也不是一件难事
5. 最后一点：免费的.
   • 整个Eclipse平台，IDE，PDE工具，都是开发源码的。
